Stahl fliegt

The nationwide competition of university students called ‘stahl fliegt’ is taking place again. The university of Bremen participates for the second time to this competition and organises once again the poject for students enrolled in the courses production industrial engineering and business management.

Aiming to reach the longest flight duration, students have to design and build an airplane with steel. The specialty of this project appears to be the construction material. The airplane is supposed to be built of at least seventy percent iron and must not exceed 400 grams. Considering this it seems difficult to use steel with its high density as a light weight construction material.

The student team of last year was able to achieve the second place in the national competition. We are aiming to reproduce this success on july 5th to 6th 2010 in Düsseldorf.
